Labradorite takes its name from Labrador, Canada, where the stone became known to Europeans in the 18th century. One beautiful Inuit story traditionally associated with Labradorite tells of the Northern Lights becoming trapped within the rocks of the Labrador coast — an origin story that doesn't feel particularly difficult to believe once you've watched one of these stones flash blue in your hand.

In crystal traditions, Labradorite is strongly associated with intuition, transformation, protection and the unseen.
